Getting to 6th grade was the biggest deal ever in my preteen days because that was the year I was allowed to wear lipstick. I believe I went straight for Revlon’s Toast of New York, a cool mocha shade that I now realize was all wrong for me. But I was too excited to notice that I didn't actually look good in the color. I had crossed over the threshold and finally, after 12 years of waiting, I was officially a makeup wearer.
It’s, um, a few years later now and I’ve gotten a better grip on choosing colors for my skin tone. And, thankfully, I’ve also mastered exactly how much to put on—in the early days, I think my “just enough” mark for eye shadow was when you could see it from across a football field.
